Chelsea Technologies is looking for a talented Project Manager to join its R&D team in the design and development of underwater products and defence projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver custom Projects on time, on budget and to specification ensuring Projects are properly planned, resourced and executed, assisting with NRE estimations, monitoring costs against the project plan and raising any deviations with Senior Management.
  • For internal projects, assist with Project justification by gathering and reviewing preliminary information for the development collected from various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create, maintain and share a project plan that documents key milestones, tasks and processes throughout the development that lead to delivery of the correct equipment on time and on budget.
  • Ensure that comprehensive, reviewed project specifications and designs are produced that identify and document the functional requirements and performance characteristics of the system, using expert resources across the company where appropriate.
  • Develop functional, environmental and Production test procedures to validate the integrated hardware/firmware/software elements and deliverable configured systems with documented results.
  • Control project related risks by identifying, documenting, assessing and mitigating them where possible, raising them to senior management where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with internal and external customer standards and procedures.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external gateway reviews, ensuring that all actions are recorded and completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare, submit and control Project documentation to individual customer requirements including manuals, manufacturing record books, interface specifications, handling/storage procedures and test & inspection plans.
  • Where relevant, manage Customer engagement including regular communication and meetings.
  • Deliver timely and thorough targeted communication to all those with a direct and indirect interest including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure remote support is provided during the installation and commissioning of new systems and ensure ongoing Customer support through training of the Customer Support team.
  • Undertake project closeout reviews to gather lessons learned that can be fed back into improvements in processes and procedures.

Key Requirements:

Essential

  • Educated to degree level BSc/BEng or equivalent in Engineering or similar discipline (minimum 2:1).
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE 2 or similar project management certification.
  • Working knowledge of the product development process/lifecycle and the various stages within that.
  • Proven experience of liaising directly with customers and delivering the highest possible levels of customer service.
  • Proven experience of liaising directly with all levels of seniority both internally and externally to a business.
  • Project management expertise and experience involving direct customer liaison and internal departmental co-ordination/delivery
  • Experience of project management with a multidisciplinary team
  • UK National suitable for SC security clearance.
  • Candidate would be expected to provide occasional off-site meetings as required including some overseas travel.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of delivering defence projects

  • Competitive salary depending upon the level of relevant experience. Salaries are reviewed annually at staff appraisals

  • Normal working week 37.5 hours, 8:00 – 8:30am to 4:00 – 4:30pm Monday to Friday, with 30 minutes for lunch; however, it is expected that when urgent deadlines are to be met, or customer support needed, staff will be required to work outside these core hours.

Security Clearance

Chelsea Technologies undertakes defence contracting work and therefore candidates must be suitable for SC security clearance with the UK Ministry of Defence.
