Manufacturing Test Engineer

Chelsea Technologies is a market leading environmental sensor design & manufacturing company working in a variety of industry sectors, including Naval Defence, Maritime & Marine Science & Technology. We are recruiting for a Manufacturing Test Engineer  focusing on assembly, test and inspection of electro-mechanical instruments from the Chelsea Technologies products range.

Core aspects of the role:

  • To conduct defined electrical/electronic procedures and routines throughout the production process from component level, through PCB and chassis assembly stages to the final assembly of finished units.
  • PCBA programming, test and inspection.
  • To highlight and drive the resolution of specification or design non-conformances through to Engineering.
  • Optical inspection
  • Servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of returned items.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings for assembly instruction and following standard operating procedures, control plans and PFMEA’s where applicable.
  • Transacting labour movements within a work order on the companies MRP system, booking direct and indirect labour utilization and quantity completed at each operations level.
  • To identify and resolve fault diagnosis issues, where possible, by adjustment or repairs.
  • Completing working order operations to delivery time and date specified on the work order.
  • To understand and follow all Manufacturing Department administrative procedures including supporting documentation i.e. test results, calibration certificates etc.
  • To understand and use Company IT resources i.e. Intranet, MRP system etc in support of day-today activities such as parts enquires, stock searches etc.
  • To raise the appropriate levels of non-conformance reports i.e. Observation Reports, Engineering Change requests etc in compliance with the Company Quality System requirements and departmental guidelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with QHSE/ISO standards.
  • To establish effective working relations with all departments, i.e. Production Engineering, Stores, Quality etc to ensure maximum co-operation for the timely resolution of test related issues.
  • To provide assistance and support to the Production Team Lead and other Test Engineers/Technicians on an ad hoc basis to complete specific activities.
  • Participating in ongoing continuous improvement systems,
  • Maintaining a 5S workstation and work environment,
  • Working closely with Engineering Department for assembling prototypes and advising on manufacturing issues and manufacturing engineering/value engineering improvement opportunities.

Experience
Previous experience of assembling and manufacturing products with multi-commodity bill of materials and in particular machined components (essential), printed circuit board assemblies (essential), wiring looms and cable assemblies (essential) and lenses, windows and optics (preferred). Ideally a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret technical data, i.e. engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, assembly drawings etc
  • Proven track record of diagnostic fault finding down to component level
  • Competent in the use of various testing tools, i.e. Scopes, DVM’s, Power Supplies, Timer Counter etc
  • Solder to component level
  • Carry out test and inspection of PCBs and instrumentation to set procedures
  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures, including ESD and quality standards
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel and Word

Qualifications
HNC Electronics or equivalent qualification in an electronic discipline plus hands on experience.

Security Clearance
Security clearance will be applied for on appointment – UK passport holders required (no dual nationals) plus proof of residency in UK for last 5 years.
